Everyone can send and reply to Echo emails.
Use Echo commands
- In your inbox, open an Echo email such as a Review Request, Feedback Request, or Approval Request.
-
Reply to the email with your feedback in the message body.
Note: Recruiting saves your reply as a comment on the newsfeed of the candidate or job. - Add a command to your reply to take action.
- Place the command anywhere above the line that instructs you to respond above it.
- Include the hashtag symbol (#) with each command.
- Use one of the following commands based on your task (list is not exhaustive, but these are the most popular commands):
- #phonescreen: Set the candidate status to Schedule a Phone Screen.
- #interview: Set the candidate status to Schedule an Interview.
- #approve: Approve the job or offer.
- #deny: Deny the job or offer.
- #private: Save the reply as a private comment.
The available commands are listed in your email.
- Send your email reply to complete the action. After you send your reply with a command, Recruiting updates the candidate or approval status and saves your comments to the newsfeed automatically.
Examples
Example 1: Schedule a phone screen
Reply: This candidate looks great. #phonescreen
Example 2: Deny an offer
Reply: #deny (Salary is over budget)
Example 3: Approve a job
Reply: Job details approved. #approve
Review special considerations
| You can send an Echo email to anyone, even people who are not users. |
You can send an Echo email to anyone, even people who are not users.
For example, if you request interview feedback from non-users, Recruiting still saves their replies. |
|---|---|
| Commands from non-users are ignored. | Only Recruiting users can run commands. If you send a non-user a Review Request and the non-user replies with #phonescreen, Recruiting ignores the command. |
| Redundant commands are ignored. |
|
| Commands that move a candidate or job backward in the process are ignored. |
|
| Approval and denial of Jobs/Offers can be commanded only by approvers. |

Troubleshooting
- Commands do not apply: Verify the command appears above the response line in the email.
- Command is not recognized: Verify the hashtag symbol is included and spelled correctly.
- Cannot pass a candidate: A pass action requires a Reason for Non-Selection, so a #pass command is not available.
