Create tracking links for external job boards

Shows how to use tracking links in Recruiting to send job applicants from any job site to your careers page and track where they came from.

This article is for administrators

You must be an Administrator, Staffing User, or the assigned Hiring Manager, Recruiter, or Executive on the job.

You must have a candidate source configured for the external job board where you plan to advertise the job.

You can create tracking links for external job boards so that applicants are directed to your Recruiting job posting, and applicant sources are tracked automatically.

This helps you:

  • Ask minimum qualification questions during the application.
  • Offer a voluntary EEO or OFCCP survey.
  • Track where each applicant comes from.
  • Avoid email resumes and spam, because applicants are stored in the system.

Create a source

  1. Go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking to open the Recruiting platform.
  2. Go to the job record that you want to advertise.
  3. Open the Job Info window.
  4. In the Job Promotion tab, Tracking Link section, select your source from the dropdown menu.

  5. Select Create a Tracking Link

  6. Hover over the source and select Copy Link

  7. Choose:
  • Job Description Page for job details first.
  • Job Application Page to go directly to the application.
  1. Select Copy Link
  2. If the job board asks how applicants should apply, select the option that sends applicants to your website.
  3. Paste the tracking link into the job board's application URL field. Paste the tracking link into the field that directs applicants to your careers site or external application process.
Note: Job boards use different names for the field where applicants are redirected to your application. Common field names include Apply URL, Application URL, External Apply URL, Apply to URL, Apply on Company Website, and Application Link.

  4. Publish the job posting on the external job board. After you create and publish a job with a tracking link, applicants who use the link are directed to the Recruiting job posting, and Recruiting records the source of each applicant.

You can use tracking links on many platforms, including:

  • Dice
  • Monster
  • CareerBuilder
  • Jooble
  • Job fairs
  • Paid LinkedIn posts
  • Paid LinkedIn posts
  • Social media
  • Niche industry or location job boards
    • Healthcare, government, nonprofit, technology, education, and association job boards often allow a website URL or application link.

Important tips

  • Some job boards do not allow tracking links or shortened links.
  • If the job board has the setting, turn off “Apply by Email” to reduce unwanted emails.
  • If applicants ignore the link and apply by email, you may still receive some messages.

What happens when a job is removed

If you remove a job from your careers page:

  • Applicants who use an old tracking link will see a message that the job is filled.
  • They are then redirected to your main careers page.
