Create short tracking links for job descriptions

Shows how to make short tracking links for job posts and when you can or can’t use them in Recruiting.

This article for adminstrators.

Recruiting’s tracking links can be long. If you want shorter links, Recruiting has a Show short link option you can use when you create a Tracking Link.

Short links work anywhere you normally post a tracking link, like on a job board.

If you share jobs in newspapers or print ads, we strongly suggest using short links because they are much easier for people to type.

Short links are easier to use, take up less space (which helps on social media), and make sharing jobs simpler.

Recruiting lets you make short tracking links and short Gravity referral links you can share on Twitter.

Prerequisite: You must create a Tracking Link for the job first.

  1. Go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking.
  2. Select the job. The job info screen opens.
  3. At the top right, select Promote. The promotion popup displays.
  4. On the right, in Tracking Links, move your mouse over the link and select Copy Link.
  5. In the Tracking Links popup, select Show short link.
  6. When the field changes, select COPY.A pop-up shows a ‘Show short link’ option beside the Job Description Page link.

If your company uses the Gravity app, we shorten job links for Twitter automatically because tweets only allow 140 characters long.

A short link looks like http://bit.ly/2kkL3uU.

Example:

A tweet window shows a message with a short bit.ly link highlighted.

Craigslist blocks short links because some short links can hide spam or unsafe sites. So you cannot use short links on Craigslist.

However, Craigslist does accept hyperlinking. This means you can use HTML to create a hyperlink to the job.

Example

This long text:

To apply, please <a href=http://newton.newtonsoftware.com/career/JobIntroduction.action?id=8a3b93ee4867dd5a01487f9b58ad2bd9&source=Craigslist”>click here</a>

Becomes this simple text on the page: To apply, please click here.
