Troubleshooting

Use this guide to find and fix common issues that prevent a job from showing on Indeed.

Normal posting delay

It can take time for jobs to appear on Indeed.

  • Jobs show on your Careers Page right away.
  • Indeed may take up to 12 hours to display or update the posting.

What to do:

  • Wait at least 12 hours before taking action

Job location issues

Using a broad location can delay or block your job.

Examples of issues:

  • Using South Florida instead of Miami
  • Listing a region instead of a city.

What to do:

  • Always use a specific city and state.

Job title problems

Indeed has strict rules for job titles.

Avoid adding:

  • Pay amounts (e.g., $20/hr
  • Signing bonuses
  • Phrases like Apply Now or Urgent Hiring

These may flag your job as spam.

Best practice:

  • Keep the job title simple.
  • Make the job title match what would appear on a business card.

Application questions that break rules

Certain questions may prevent your job from posting.

Examples:

  • Asking about criminal history where not allowed.
  • Asking about salary history where restricted.

What to do:

  • Follow all state and federal hiring laws.

Requests for personal or sensitive information

Indeed may block jobs that ask for private data.

Avoid asking for:

  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Other personally identifiable information (PII)

What to do:

  • Only collect basic application details during the application process.
  • For more information, refer to Indeed’s Policy

Links to outside sites can delay posting.

Examples

  • Assessment links
  • Document upload sites

What to do:

  • Move these links to the Thank You for Applying email instead.

Inactive job record or unpromoted job listings

Jobs that are inactive or not feeding to the job boards will not appear.

What to do:

  1. If the job is closed, update the Job Status field to Active to reopen it.

  2. Select the Promote link at the bottom of the job card. This shows which job boards are receiving the job posting. If a job board shows Promote instead of Active, the job is not being sent to that board. Select Promote to turn on the job board feed.

Duplicate or low-quality content

Indeed may filter jobs that appear repetitive or unclear.

What to do:

  • Use unique job descriptions.
  • Follow best practices for job quality.
