The Promotions tab in Gmail is part of Tabbed Inboxes. Google introduced tabbed inboxes in 2013 to organize incoming email into categories. This system places emails into groups based on content, sender behavior, and user activity.
A tabbed inbox helps you focus on important messages first. Gmail places personal and direct messages in the Primary tab. It places marketing, bulk messages, and automated emails in the Promotions tab.
How recruiting emails appear in Gmail
Gmail controls how it sorts incoming messages. This process happens outside of Paycor Recruiting.
Recruiting emails often appear in the Promotions tab when you:
- Send follow-up messages from Paycor Recruiting
- Send follow-up messages from another email system
Gmail may identify these messages as promotional because of formatting, frequency, or content type.
How to help applicants find your emails
Use these practices to help applicants locate your messages:
- Use text messaging to notify applicants about your first email and remind them to check their spam or junk folders.
- Add a note to your emails that asks recipients to add your email address to their contact list.
- Call applicants to confirm they received your message. This helps prevent missed communication. Do not risk losing a great candidate because of a missed email.
Notes
- Gmail sorts emails into tabs using its own filtering rules. You and Recruiting Support cannot change where Gmail places an email.
- Emails in the Promotions tab are not spam or junk.
- Paycor Recruiting recognizes emails in the Promotions tab as delivered. Support cannot troubleshoot which Gmail tab an email appears in.
