Mark a candidate as an internal applicant in Recruiting

Describes how to mark a candidate as an internal applicant when an internal candidate does not apply through an internal job posting.

This article is for administrators.

You must be an admin or staffing user or be assigned a role on the job.

The Candidate Hiding setting must be configured if you want to restrict visibility.

  1. Go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking to open the Recruiting platform.
  2. Open the candidate's record.
  3. Select the Candidate Info icon next to their name.
  4. On the Candidate Info tab, find the Source/Referrer field.
  5. Select Internal Applicant
  6. Select Save

After you mark the candidate as an internal applicant, the system updates the candidate type and controls visibility based on your organization's settings.

  • Most standard users cannot view the candidate’s record.
  • Only users assigned to the job can view the candidate’s record.
  • This behavior applies only when Hide Internal Applicants from Standard Users is turned on.
    • This setting can be found under Admin > Company Settings > Candidate Hiding

Troubleshooting

  • Candidate is still visible to all users: Verify Hide Internal Applicants from Standard Users is turned on in your Company Settings.
  • Cannot update the source or referrer: Verify you are an admin or staffing user or assigned a role on the job.
  • Selection does not save: Verify you selected Save after making changes.
