This article is for administrators.
- Recruiting job priorities show how urgent it is to fill a position.
- They help recruiters and hiring managers focus on the roles that need attention first.
- Priorities are used for internal planning and do not impact the job's external status.
What this feature does
Recruiting job priorities give your team a shared view of hiring urgency. This helps your team:
- Communicate how quickly a role needs to be filled.
- Focus on sourcing, screening, and interviews for the right jobs.
-
Add context to dashboards and reports without changing job status.
Change the Job Priority field
- Go to People > Hiring > Applicant Tracking to open the Recruiting platform.
-
Open the job you want to update.
- On the Job Details screen, select a value from the Priority drop-down menu.
- Urgent: The role needs to be filled as soon as possible and requires top attention.
- Normal: The role follows a standard hiring timeline.
- Low: The role has flexible timing or a lower business need.
-
On Hold: Hiring for the role is paused for a short time, but the job remains active.
- Save the Job Details.
How Priority organizes the Recruiting Home Dashboard
The Priority value you set groups the job on the Recruiting Home Dashboard. The dashboard lists priority for each job so recruiters and hiring managers can scan the highest-urgency roles first.
- Urgent jobs group together at the start of the job list.
- Normal jobs group together after Urgent jobs.
- Low jobs group together after Normal jobs.
- On Hold jobs remain on the dashboard so your team knows hiring is paused.
To change how jobs are grouped or filtered on the dashboard, select Dashboard Options on the Recruiting Home Dashboard. For more information, refer to Recruiting Home Dashboard overview for administrators.
Priority and external job boards
The Priority field is an internal setting only. It does not change how a job performs on external job boards such as Indeed or LinkedIn.
- Priority does not raise or lower a job's placement on an external job board.
- Priority does not change a job's search ranking on an external job board.
- Each external job board uses its own algorithm to decide which jobs to list and how to rank them. Paycor does not control those algorithms.
Note: Setting a job to On Hold pauses urgency for your internal team, but the job stays active in Paycor and stays live on any external job board where it is promoted. To remove a job from external job boards, end the job's promotions on the Job Details screen. Promotions are managed separately from the Priority field.
Factors that affect external job board visibility
Because priority is internal, use these Job Details fields to control how a job is presented to external job boards:
- Job Title: Enter a clear, searchable title that matches the terms candidates use.
- Location: Enter complete and accurate location details so job boards can match the posting to candidate searches.
- Job Description: Enter a full description with the responsibilities, requirements, and keywords that describe the role.
- Job Promotions: Manage which external job boards the job is sent to, and when. Repeatedly reposting the same job in a short time can be treated as spam by a job board.
- Company profile: Keep your company profile on each external job board complete and up to date. The job board manages this profile, not Paycor.
For guidance on posting rules or ranking on a specific external job board, refer to that job board's help documentation. For help with Paycor Recruiting settings, contact Paycor Support.
Important considerations
- Changing job priority does not remove a job from your Careers page or external job boards.
- Setting a job to On Hold pauses urgency internally but keeps the job active. The job stays visible to your team and remains visible externally unless you end promotions separately.
- To stop external visibility, you must end job promotions. Promotions are managed separately from job priority.
